Meet some of our leaders
Mike Munoz is market president of AmeriHealth New Jersey. He has overall responsibility for profit-and-loss management and business operations for the statewide health plan.
Munoz assumed his current role in 2017 after leading the company’s Sales and Marketing organization for over a decade. During that time, he oversaw new business sales and retention across all market segments in addition to product management, marketing and public relations. His leadership resulted in enhanced product offerings, better engagement with the broker community and heightened brand awareness for AmeriHealth New Jersey throughout the state.
Munoz has more than 25 years of experience in the health insurance industry. Prior to AmeriHealth New Jersey, he held several leadership roles at Oxford Health Plans.
An active leader in the local New Jersey communities, Munoz currently sits on the boards of the Camden Community Partnership, Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey, Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey, Special Olympics New Jersey, and United Way of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey. In 2021, he was featured on South Jersey Biz's Power 50 list for the fifth time. In 2019, he was recognized as an Executive of the Year by the New Jersey Business and Industry Association as well as South Jersey Biz. In 2018 the March of Dimes named him Citizen of the Year in Business.
Ryan Petrizzi is vice president of sales. In his role, Petrizzi oversees new business and retention for AmeriHealth New Jersey’s entire sales organization across all market segments including individual, small and large business, public sector and self-funded. He also oversees sales strategy, product development, and customer experience for all market segments.
Previously, Petrizzi was vice president of consumer markets and product development. In that role, he drove end-to-end oversight and accountability of the company’s consumer markets, membership growth and retention. In addition, Petrizzi oversaw product development, product implementation, sales support and AmeriHealth New Jersey’s healthcare reform strategy.
Prior to that Petrizzi held several sales roles within the company, such as director of sales operations and small markets, where he oversaw AmeriHealth New Jersey’s product management and sales operations teams as well as small group and individual market sales segments throughout the state, and director of sales for Northern New Jersey for all market segments. He has also held various sales-related roles with Aetna US Healthcare throughout New Jersey and Delaware where he was repeatedly recognized as one of the top sales people nationwide.
Petrizzi sits on the boards of the New Jersey Association of Health Plans and the Burlington County Special Services Educational Foundation. He was named to South Jersey Biz magazine’s 20 Under 40 list in 2015 and NJBIZ’s Forty Under 40 list. He holds a B.S. in both marketing and corporate communications from Albright College.
Dr. Urbano is responsible for working with the provider network physicians to ensure the effectiveness of medical and utilization management activities, quality management programs, pharmacy management, and medical policy for New Jersey. He also supports physician recruitment and retention activities and strengthens relationships with the medical community across New Jersey.
Dr. Urbano has spoken nationwide on various topics related to case management, healthcare delivery, medical management, and healthcare policy. He is a Fellow in the 2016-2017 AHIP Executive Leadership Program for Medical Directors, a national leadership forum to help shape the future of health care. He is also member of the first cohort of the New Jersey Healthcare Executive Leadership Academy (NJHELA), designed to enhance cross disciplinary, collaborative leadership among three health care sectors in order to improve the health care delivery system in New Jersey.
Throughout his career, Dr. Urbano has been dedicated to improving care coordination. Before joining AmeriHealth New Jersey, he was medical director of care management for the Einstein Healthcare Network, where he worked to bring high-quality, cost-effective care to an underserved urban community. Prior to that, he was medical director of care coordination at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ.
Dr. Urbano received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Rutgers University and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his residency training at Thomas Jefferson University, where he served as chief resident in internal medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Urbano also holds an MBA with a concentration in healthcare management from Widener University. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership and the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy.
