Getting started

Picking a health care plan can be a very complicated decision. You have specific needs that are different from anyone else’s, and that’s why we offer different kinds of plans. Each piece of an AmeriHealth New Jersey plan covers a specific need, and understanding those pieces is your key to finding the plan that fits you best.

When choosing a plan, you will have to make decisions about:

  • Coverage network
  • Metallic category
  • Referral preferences
  • Health Savings Account

These choices will affect important things like where you can go to get medical treatment and how you’ll pay for your plan.

It’s also important to see if you qualify for a tax credit from the government. See if you qualify.

Tax credit (subsidy)

A tax credit is an amount of money that the government is required to pay towards your health insurance. But you have to qualify to receive one, and that depends on your income and the number of people in your household. You may be eligible to receive tax credits, pay less for health care services and products, or both.

New financial help is available to lower your monthly premiums through Get Covered New Jersey. This is a new benefit provided by the state of New Jersey, called New Jersey Health Plan Savings.

If you don’t qualify for a tax credit or New Jersey Health Plan Savings, then you can enroll directly through AmeriHealth New Jersey. But first, let’s go over a few things. We'll start with your options for a coverage network.
